AAA Mountain West Group Observes Roadside Assistance Worker Appreciation Week

AAA honors the vital role of roadside assistance professionals and calls for driver awareness. 

PHOENIX (June 23, 2025) – Roadside assistance workers across Arizona come to the rescue of motorists at all hours of the day. In honor of their dedication and service, AAA Mountain West Group (MWG) is highlighting the importance of Slow Down, Move Over Laws in recognition of Roadside Assistance Worker Appreciation Week (June 23-29) across Arizona.Summer is the busiest time for AAA’s roadside assistance teams and partners. Last year, AAA came to the rescue of more than 220,000 Members across Arizona. If you’ve ever been stranded on the side of the road with cars flying by at highway speeds, you understand the challenges roadside assistance workers face daily. 

“With summer travel season well underway, emergency crews are especially busy and face extreme danger while helping stranded drivers,” said Dan Hutchinson, Road Service Executive Vice President, AAA Mountain West Group. “Adhering to ‘Slow Down, Move Over’ laws across the country is the best way to protect these essential emergency workers.”

Arizona’s Slow Down, Move Over law requires drivers to reduce their speed or move over to the next lane upon encountering emergency vehicles, stalled vehicles, or debris. Violators face penalties, and if injuries occur, a potential jail sentence. 

In recognition of Roadside Assistance Worker Appreciation Week, AAA Mountain West Group urges drivers to:

• Stay alert, avoid distractions and focus on driving.
• Watch for situations where emergency vehicles, tow trucks, public service vehicles, or disabled vehicles are on the side of the road.
• When approaching these incidents, slow down and if possible, keep one lane away from workers, motorists and disabled vehicles stopped at the side of the road.
