Motorcycle Insurance Discounts
While available options vary by carrier, here are some common motorcycle insurance discounts.
Policy Bundle
You may get a discount by bundling your motorcycle coverage with another policy, such as homeowners or auto insurance, from the same insurer.
Clean Record
Maintaining a clean driving record may result in a lower insurance rate.
Multiple Motorcycles
You may get a discount when you insure more than one bike with the same insurance company.
Training Course
You may save money if you complete a motorcycle rider training course.
Club Membership
You may get discounted coverage for belonging to a motorcycle rider’s organization.
Driving Experience
If you’re 55 years or older or a longtime rider, ask your insurer about a mature rider discount.
Motorcycle Insurance Coverage
Although options vary by carrier, motorcycle insurance coverage is similar to standard auto insurance coverages. In addition to liability and uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage—which may be required, depending on your state—many insurers offer the following options:
Bodily Injury
This helps pay medical or funeral costs if you cause an accident that injures other people.
Property Damage
This helps cover damage that your motorcycle causes to other people’s property if you’re at fault.
Collision
If your motorcycle collides with another vehicle or an object, such as a tree, this coverage helps pay for damage to your bike. You can file a claim no matter who was at fault.
Comprehensive
If your motorcycle gets damaged by something other than a collision with another vehicle, this coverage pays to repair or replace it. Depending on where you live, it might cover theft, vandalism, fire, and animal collisions.
Medical Payments (MedPay)
This coverage pays your medical expenses. MedPay coverage doesn’t cover lost wages or other nonmedical costs associated with your injuries. MedPay is not available in all states.
Personal Injury Protection (PIP)
This insurance helps cover medical and funeral expenses no matter who’s at fault. It also helps pay lost wages if the injured person needs to take time off work as they recover. Personal injury protection is not available in all states.
Custom Parts Insurance
If you’ve customized your bike—with a distinctive paint job or vinyl wrap, chrome wheel rims, custom fenders—you may be able to protect those special parts with add-on accessories coverage.
Trip Interruption Coverage
This coverage helps pay for lodging, transportation and meals if your bike gets disabled far from home (100 miles away or more in most policies).
Transport Trailer Coverage
This insurance helps cover physical damage to trailers, which may not be covered by your auto policy.
AAA Membership for Motorcycles
AAA Premier Membership* includes roadside assistance for motorcycles—so you can ride with peace of mind.
*AAA Membership is not insurance. Insurance is sold separately.
