#AAAProud: Dan O'Connell

Dan logs hundreds of miles a year to help our Members when they’re stranded roadside. He calls it turning “chaos into calm” for our Members. Going the extra mile for our Members makes Dan #AAAProud.

What made you decide to work here and what's surprised you the most about working at AAA?
I knew a few retired AAA insurance agents. Every single one I asked said they would work at AAA again, if they had to do it all over. That piqued my interest. Working in the Fleet is equal parts challenging and rewarding. The job pushes you physically, mentally and emotionally, but the reward of helping others is incredible.

You’re celebrating three years at AAA. What motivates you to come to work every day?
It’s addictive. Being outside and helping others when they are stranded ... it’s not a bad gig. We let them know everything will be O.K. By the time I have their car loaded, you literally hear them breathe a sigh of relief. We bring calm to chaos ... that’s what gets me up every day to do this job.

What AAA values (humility, integrity, teamwork, service) have you leaned on to remain resilient?
I think integrity has been on my mind a lot during the pandemic. There’s a lot of inconsistency and confusion in the world now. The one thing our Members can count on is our integrity and that we are there for them.

What is your Proudest AAA moment?
My proudest moment was when my supervisor asked me to train others on the team. That meant a lot to me that he felt my approach was something to share with others.

What would people be surprised to learn about you?
I have two young daughters, and I try to take my family outdoors as often as I can, being that we are just 30 minutes from Lake Tahoe.
