Install detectors on every level of your home, outside sleeping areas, and at least five feet above the ground. Avoid placing them near vents, restrooms or gas appliances.
Test fire alarms monthly by pressing the “Test” button. Replace batteries annually and replace the unit every 10 years.
A typical system includes smoke detectors, heat detectors, manual pull stations, alarm sounders, and a control panel that alerts emergency responders when a fire is detected.
